7.3 - Waste Management (disposal of printed bags)

Good afternoon

We are a dry pulse crop processor (we clean dry beans a pack into 50 lbs sacs). We have bags with our company name/ brand on them.

Recent auditor found 2 bundles of brand bags in dumpster because they got dirty so staff threw them out and of course there is a issue under  TS – 7.3 Waste Management and Removal. which states "Labelled materials, products or printed packaging designated as waste shall be disfigured or destroyed to ensure that trademarks cannot be reused. Removal and destruction shall be carried out by approved disposal contractors. The organization shall retain records of destruction."

We have gone through a company buy out and the bags have been changed so we have bundles of bags to be rid of. Operations wants to sell these to a construction company who would use them (because their rugged bag) to fill with construction scrap then haul to landfill. Does anyone have a creative way of writing this type of usage option into SF system that would satisfy the standard?

The usual concern is that the packaging materials would be used for counterfeit products.

Can you print black in to cover up the original graphics?  I don't know if this would be acceptable.

Yes thanks, we will have policy to black mark through the label or cut it when we are disposing of a few bags at a time. Problem is we have 50,000 bags to dispose of (50 bundles) so the man power to mark these would be big challenge.

The auditor has an issue with the fact that they were designated as waste. Do not designate them as waste and conclude the sale perhaps as overstock or discontinued items.
