Best solution for knife placement
We are a vegetable produce company and our workers use knifes to cut the vegetables. We sign knifes when they take them to use , but when they go on lunch they leave them in production inside pallets and the knife gets lost. We are unsure of what the best solution will be to where to place the knifes.
Please help us
Thank you

Collect them before they go on break. Re-distribute after.
We have designated holders for the knives at each work station that the employees can place them in during their shift when not in use.
Easiest way around it is to sign them out at the start of production, sign them back in at lunch, back out after lunch, back in at the end of the shift. No one goes on lunch until all knives are accounted for
yes, basically count in and out at each start/end of a shift and going on breaks. If the knives are durable and used over a longer period of time and by the same employee, it might be helpful to number the knives and connect it to the employee for registration.
I think as best practice you should number all the knives, make slotted holders for each knife and introduce a record to capture issued and returned knives.
As per previous post an option well-recommended in the past was to have numbers engraved into the knives. Not so sure this is easy in practice though. ??

It should be fairly easy as long as the knives have plastic handles with the use of an engraving tool (or, if you're an idiot like me, a great big soldering iron you mistake for an engraving tool!)
They should be signing them in and out for lunch.
If they fail to do this, every day go and take any knifes you find on the production floor. They soon get tired of coming back from lunch and having no knives. They have to come to me and explain why they can't continue working. That soon put a stop to leaving them in random places. Now they are obsessed with keeping their knives in the lock box provided when not in use.
