FSSC 22000 V4.1 Food Fraud for Packaging (manufacture)

Hi All,

New to the site, happy to be apart of the community. I have searched through the site but have been unable to clearly identify an issue we are having. I work for a packaging manufacture and we produce both direct food contact as well as non-contact packaging (primary and secondary packaging). We are FSSC 22000/GFSI certified using ISO 22000 and 22002-4TS standards. We (each plant within my company) are upgrading this year to the v4.1 FSSC22000 requirements.

I would like to know, based on your (others) interpretation, how a packaging manufacture (no food processing or packing on site - only manufacture of corrugate packaging) applies VACCP.

Thanks

Hi namorris,

Also see this thread which you hv already "posted" in -

http://www.ifsqn.com...f8/#entry120411

The food manufacturers seem to be in a related "boat" eg this thread -

PS - Welcome to the Forum ! :welcome:

PPS - I assume you are initially seeking a free option. If otherwise a fssc22000Packaging Package is offered on this site but i haven't checked if it is up-to-date regarding vulnerability assessment requirements. Link is here -

https://www.ifsqn.co...-manufacturers/

In principle the (BRC-oriented) Vulnerability Assessment, VA (~ = VACCP) methods attached on this forum for food are modifiable for Packaging but afaik there are as yet no posted examples of such an application. BRC now seem to be involved for the Packaging Industry as per this document -

BRC Packaging - food-defence,food-fraud,2017.pdf   678.02KB   381 downloads

If there are no free dedicated  fssc22000 solutions available, you may find it worthwhile to investigate the VA portion of the free Guidance document   for SQF8-Food Manufacturing  which i anticipate will also form the basis of the, as yet unreleased, Guidance document for SQF8 Packaging. Their (food) Guidance solution recommends to use a freely downloadable app (SSafe) but I'm not sure if this app is Packaging-ready.(never used it myself). The SQF file index / download page is here -

http://www.sqfi.com/documents/

For Food I think the biggest headache has been a lack of free historical fraud event databases which are necessary to develop the VA.

P3S - Just in case you are new to "food fraud" the attachment below gives a quite detailed/readable introduction to one approach for performing a vulnerability assessment primarily oriented to food. The part involving "Likelihood of occurrence" is IMO rather well-done but the "Impact" Portion/Matrices not so much. Alternative "formula/matrix" methods posted on the forum use logic similar to the "likelihood" segment but avoid the Impact route).

4 Thanks

Charles,

Thank you for the information, The BRC guide you attached is by far the best explaination I have found. My team will be reviewing next week to see how to make an application specific for our plants. Thanks again for your help!

Hi Karen,

Link within yr (linked) post seems not very meaningful.

Hopefully BRC Food will maintain their disinterest in what may well be, statistically, an insignificant risk ?
