I'm strugling with FSMA and need some advice.

Our company want to apply FSMA and we did training not long time ago and we had PCQI already.

Is our company still need apply for external audit from 3rd party certification body to get FSMA certification?

What if our buyer asked about FSMA compliance, is it ok just by show PCQI certificate and our Food safety plan?

Thanks

I'm a little concerned about your level of understanding regarding FSMA and certification.  Your PCQI should know that there is no such thing as FSMA certification.  If your PCQI does not know that, I think I would suggest additional training.

Bottom line is you can claim that your company is FSMA compliant but unless you've had an audit, you have no evidence to back that up.  If a buyer asks you can show them a PCQI certificate and Food Safety Plan and see if they accept it.  Most retailers will not.

I think 3rd party audits are good for making sure you're staying on top of your requirements and would recommend scheduling one, regardless of what your current customer accepts.

BRC offers a voluntary FSMA compliance check. FSMA certification does not exist. Probably other certification schemes (FSSC/IFS etc.) will offer the same.

It does not cost a lot but, can detect any gaps in your current Quality Management System that you need to close to become 100% FSMA compliant. Not quite sure what you are producing but, there are a lot of exception from FSMA if you are already producing under specific defined HACCP schemes (such as Seafood, Juices, Canned Food).

Good luck!
