SQF Quality Code 2.4.4.1, suppliers certified how?
Hi,
I just want to know how others people deal with this point of Quality Code of SQF (2.4.4.1). We are from Canada (meat plan) and we have some suppliers from new zealand and USA. They are not certificat for quality code but they have BRC or SQF certificat.
If you have suggestion for close this NC for an audit ... I will be happy to read you.
Thank you
(2.4.4.1 Raw materials, ingredients, packaging materials, and services that impact on finished product quality shall be supplied by an approved supplier. 2.4.4.2 Material suppliers shall be selected and approved based on their ability to supply materials that meet quality specifications. The evaluation program shall require suppliers to: i. Maintain controlled and current copies of specifications; ii. Have processes that are capable of consistently supplying materials that meet specification and other defined quality metrics (e.g. delivery. service, adherence to specifications, etc.); iii. Be certified to a second or third party quality management system; and iv. Have a complaints and corrective action process in place).
Are you not the second quality management system? If you sample and test from those suppliers and product is deemed to meet your quality standard would that not suffice?

the quality code says "Be certified to a second or third party quality management system" for suppliers. In my country we don't have lot of plan who are certified SQF Quality code.

Second party by definition is your facility and your standards. Don't make this harder than it is, what does the actual NC say?
A second-party audit is when a company performs an audit of a supplier to ensure that they are meeting the requirements specified in the contract
BRC is may be third quality management system but SQF food safety code is not a third quality management systeme just food safety management system that's why i ask if people have the same probleme than me with suppliers when they not able to audit they suppliers for quality (and not food safety) system (second party).
Just remember : SQF FOOD SAFETY CODE is different than SQF QUALITY CODE

Hi Augusteissa,
As per Post 6, can you inform what the NC actually said ?
From the Guidance (and as a corollary to Post6) -
The site must be able to provide documented evidence that incoming materials have either been inspected or that they come from an approved supplier. The methods for selecting, evaluating, approving and monitoring an approved supplier must be documented. This will be risk-based and may be as simple as a good supply history, sourcing from certified suppliers (e.g. SQF certified suppliers) or personally auditing/inspecting the material supplier’s operations, depending on risk, site knowledge and past history. Approved suppliers must have a documented and implements [probably = implemented] quality system that has been certified by a 2nd or 3rd party to ensure its validity.
So a (satisfactorily certified) 2nd or 3rd Party audit is seemingly mandated. Presumably 3rd in this case. Presumably scope as per 2.4.4.
