Traceability system for a seafood company
hi colleagues,
am trying to set up a traceability system for a seafood company but finding it difficult to generate batch codes and product code, and also linking lot codes to a batch code. Your inputs in this topicis highly appreciated and please give example for easier explanations.
Thanks
what is your process for allocating batches/lots right now?
We are using a prefix , a numeric figure representing the year of production and a serial number. e.g; AP18001. AP- prefix, 18- 2018, 01- serial number of production in the year. This appears to be insufficient, is there any better example. please do share
Why not the julian date? Today would be 18185 (year 18, day of year 185) then you could add alpha characters to represent the product in the carton
For example, raw frozen shimp packed today
RFS18185.....
That way, if you're packing more than one product you just need to change the alpha code
raw frozen basa
RFB18185
It would depend on how many characters you have room for
you mentioned linking batches to lots??? Do you mean raw material to finished products?
yes absolutely, raw material to finished product. e.g i can obtain one batch in a daily production from many lots. How do i link these raw materials (lots) to the the finished product (batch)
ok, you need a batch record of some sort
You need production date, product being made, amount of finished goods (cases, kgs, packages etc) (the finance people will want waste and you should too depending on how much)
Then you add the lot # for each raw material that is going into that product and how much (lbs, kgs units).
Also has the finished goods i.d. number on the batch record
Then for traceability you've at least got a paper record for everything you make
There is software out there to make this easier, but it tends to be very expensive
Hi jallowm,
This is a kind of generic requirement as summarised in previous Post.
I think you will find a variety of posibilities / layouts detailed on this Forum. Maybe do a bit of searching around.
Also, as just noted, software packages can vastly simplify this function.
