US Heavy Metals Standard for Coconut products
Hi Everyone,
Is there existing standard for USFDA with regards on the heavy metal?
Thanks,
Particularly on VCO, desiccated coconuts and coconut flour.
FDA's most current position on lead limits: https://www.fda.gov/...s/ucm557424.htm
Stadnards aren't available for all foods yet. <100ppb may be a good place to start since it's their most permissive level currently used. Otherwise you can do the math on expected dietary intake of your ingredient and how much could be in there to stay under the 6 µg/day intake threshold, but they're working on lowering that one.
For your reference, here are Canada's limits

Probably, for USA, official coconut heavy metal limits do not exist, eg see -

"Although the FDA has set specific levels for arsenic, lead, cadmium, and mercury in a variety of foods, more generally, the FDA has—and uses—the authority to take action on a case-by-case basis where a particular food is found through routine or targeted testing to be adulterated."

Hope this helps
