ISO 22000 v. ISO 9001
Also if someone has ever experienced an FPA audit (which we just did) we need to know how much of ISO 22000 will cover the necessary bullit points of the FPA audit.
If someone also has had experience implementing ISO 22000 I would like to know how different it is from HACCP.
Thanks.
No and no. ISO 22000 addresses aspects of food safety concerns only, however, it goes beyond HACCP; ISO 22000 is a holistic food safety management system combining:I work in a food manufacturing plant and we are trying to determine which ISO system is better to implement. Primarily I need to know if the ISO 22000 system contains quality management aspects or is it only a food safety program (such as HACCP).
- interactive communication
- system management
- process control
- HACCP principles
- prerequisite programs
ISO 22000 is designed to be implemented in conjunction with ISO 9001 and/or ISO 14001; in the Standard there is a table showing the correspondence between the clauses of ISO 22000 and ISO 9001. There are some differences between the clause numbering and titles, but there is a lot of parity also e.g. document control, management responsibility, management review, resource management, improvement...…
Where there is parity of clause numbers and titles of course the requirements can be different, it just allows for better integration of the two systems.
I wasn't familiar with FPA-Safe at all until you mentioned it. Is it a free standard are you able to post it for review? Failing that can you post the standard section headings this way we might be able to tell you how FPA-Safe fits with ISO 22000.Also if someone has ever experienced an FPA audit (which we just did) we need to know how much of ISO 22000 will cover the necessary bullit points of the FPA audit.
Hopefully I answered this question earlier. If someone also has had experience implementing ISO 22000 I would like to know how different it is from HACCP.
Welcome to the forums Phillip.

Could someone provide me with a comparison of ISO 22000 and ISO 9001?
Hi Phillip,
ISO 22000 Annex A cross references ISO 9001 and ISO 22000.
ISO 22000 Annex A cross references ISO 9001 and ISO 22000.
How to say the same thing without all the waffle.
Thanks Franco.

FPA documents that were provided prior to the audit are attached:
FPA_Audit___Daily_Schedule___2006.doc 329KB 243 downloadsFPA_SAFE_Auditor_Checklist.doc 335.5KB 162 downloads
The audit is 1 week in length, 8-9h/day and covered off every aspect of our operation from consumer response, new product development, QA to maintanance. The audit is becoming the primary method for evaluating CDN companies in food manufacturing. Most grocery stores will not allow you to bid on contracts without the FPA audit being completed. No score is provided however the audit is scored by our customers using their own scoring system.
I appreciate this forum and will be using it resources as we implement ISO here.
I will have a good read of the documents you posted - thanks!

Simon
We are not required to have ISO however an ISO quality system would cover-off the majority of the requirements of an FPA audit.
The FPA audit is scheduled to last between 3-5 days, with the 5 day time period for the first FPA audit. Our facility is not especially large however this was our first FPA.

Thanks Phillip. One more question how widely is FPA recognized in the US and Canada compared with for example SQF Codes. It would be useful if you could provide a brief overview of food safety registration schemes over there.
TIA,
Simon
