What is the required frequency of HACCP Refresher Training?
As I read the code for SQF Food Safety V8, I notes in 2.1.2_ that the SQF practitioner must have HACCP training. I do. But is is about six years old now. During our desk audit, the auditor stated that it must be every 5 years. I just don't see that in the code so I must ask my favorite group of professionals.
Is that true? Is this a common statement?
Sincerely,
PD
Nope - not written anywhere. I've heard different time frames from different sources, but five years is a good rule of thumb. Definitely not REQUIRED though.
There is nothing in the SQF code that says every 5 years - another made up requirement by an Auditor - suggestion: look closely at everything on the desk audit, you may find others.
Mr. Oster,
I have read your comments for some time now. I love the scrappy nature you approach the physiology surrounding the auditor/auditee relationship. You are one of my favorites on this site!!!!!!
Thank you Both!!
I was told the same thing in November. 2.1.1.5,
The primary and substitute SQF practitioner shall:
i. Be employed by the site;
ii. Hold a position of responsibility related to the management of the site's SQF System;
iii. Have completed a HACCP training course;
iv. Be competent to implement and maintain HACCP based food safety plans; and
v. Have an understanding of the SQF Food Safety Code: Food Manufacturing and the requirements to implement and maintain an SQF System relevant to the site's scope of certification.
Nothing about retaking the course. They don't even mention SQF implementation training. Nor is it in section 2.9.2
I have had two different customer auditors with 5-year refresh requirements (5+years ago). I believe they ended up moving that requirement to 'suggested' though. Probably not even worth worrying about, tbh..
I have had two different customer auditors with 5-year refresh requirements ...
It is the customer, often something like Costco that gets tacked on to lots of audits, and the auditors probably forget where that specific requirement is coming from.
"HACCP or PCQI training certifications must be current within 5 years."
A question. When asked do any of you have other training courses which would demonstrate CPD / continuing professional development? So for example, if you have HACCP but it's a long time ago but have kept up to date by doing a micro course last year, some CPD on metal detection a couple of years ago etc?
