Dumping mop water in hand washing basin
Hi everyone. I'm looking for some feedback. We are SQF certified. We have an old facility and are having some plumbing issues due to debris in the warehouse mop water. Instead of dumping the mop water in the floor drain, as they are doing, maintenance has the idea of using the adjacent hand washing sink. This would allow them to put a large screen in the sink to catch the debris (see attached photo). I guess they want a larger surface area for a screen than the floor drain can provide. This would still be used as a hand washing sink, located right outside the warehouse/production room bathrooms. I'm not sure if they would remove the screen in between uses. Are there any rules about keeping warehouse mop water and hand washing sinks separate? From a risk perspective, the mop water has chemicals in it that kill bacteria. My inclination is to say no, but this does continue to be a problem and I understand their focus on the plumbing issue. There's also a drinking station to the right of the sink. I would appreciate any suggestions.
They would be better to dump the waste water from the mop bucket outside than this "great idea."

I saw one of our "supposedly trained" employees dump the mop water in the hand washing sink and I went crazy when I saw him! (You can guess what I did later). That's a big no, can you dedicate like a small floor sink? That way it is only for mop water, it's on the floor and it has a sufficient area where you can dump the water in and no cross contamination. When you dump the mop water, it may splash on other areas and spread contamination, not only that but physical matter as well.
I'm no engineer but I can't imagine it would be too difficult to create an attachment for the floor drain, like a funnel style design with a mesh top to collect debris. Or perhaps an attachment that can be applied to the mop bucket so that water can be tipped down the floor drain through a mesh/sieve lid on the bucket that keeps debris inside :dunno:
In any case, keep it out of the hand wash sink and away from the water dispenser

there are screens for drains. just like a sink drain that you find at home.
