How to develop a Supplier Score Card?

Hi,

 

I am in the process of developing a supplier score card but not sure where to start.  I wanted to just started measuring just the quality component for the score card.

 

Does anyone have any resources, courses and even examples.

I've seen quite a few different implementations of this, ranging in scope from very focussed QA stuff through to quite broad overall performance monitoring.
The former could simply be e.g. % deliveries in spec, number of complaints/rejections raised and/or proportion of batches/orders resulting in a complaint.

For something more comprehensive you could broaden this out to more parameter-level detail, depending on the type of raw material specifications you're working with - e.g. if you use target ranges and a broader "acceptable" tolerance (or e.g. green/red/amber scoring) then they'd be obvious elements to consider.
Depending how much buy-in you have from other departments, you could also expand to e.g. deliveries on time, deliveries over/under weight etc.

Really depends how deep/broad you want to go with it.

VERY informative and they give you forms and sheets, part of them are what you are looking for. Says next live training is Aug but you still can purchase the one from Feb and get access to all slides, forms...etc.

Hi Charles & FS, I did go over the supplier auditing training webinar but look for more detailed into how to develop a score card, what are quality KPI, how to measure them etc.

I had kicked around the idea of implementing supplier score cards to be used during annual review. The score cards would be used to move around supplier tier (low,med,high risk). I don't have enough suppliers nor enough risk to implement it, but I can give you an overview of what I was kicking around as KPI.

  1. SCAR review (this is really the big one IMO)
    • How many SCAR's were opened,
    • time to close,
    • satisfactory close, etc.
  2. Supplier filled out annual questionnaire and supplied required documents in a timely manner (I set 1-2 months, that seems to be industry standard in chem)
  3. Supplier product recalls (or hopefully lack thereof. I wasn't sure if I would keep this one in, your call)

That was as far as I got from looking at my old notes, so I didn't get to flesh that out much before I realized it wasn't going to be required here.

Maybe quantify the data on the SCAR. You could assign a number to type of non-conformance that you are putting on the supplier corrective action. Then set thresholds based off what each suppliers annual # is. A product defect could be higher than a late shipment, for example. You should really tailor it to you and your company. What things have really screwed the pooch at your company that suppliers have caused? Have you had to rework product, discard it, recalled it or even lost a customer because of a supplier error? When I do KPI's for employees I am looking at what I want them to improve, reachable goals.

The hard part is going to be "what do I do if I get a supplier below my threshold?"
