If I have PCQI certification do I still need to be HACCP certified?
I am the Quality Assurance Specialist at a functional baking ingredient manufacturer and I have my PCQI certification but I need to know if I still need to be HACCP certified. We are SQF and the auditor wasn't sure either.
We had to get clarification about SQF as well. They told us the PCQI training would work as a substitute. Not sure if this came from SQFI or our certification body.
PCQI certification training is based in HACCP principles so should be accepted as a proof that you went through the required training.
If you are the SQF Practitioner or the cover person for the SQF Practitoner you are required to have specific HACCP training with a certificate.

Yes I am the SQF Practitioner. Our auditor wasn't sure since PCQI also covers HACCP. She told me to find our before our next audit. I have my PCQI certificate currently. But in order to stay compliant I need to know what all certifications I need.

The requirements for the SQF Practitioner is clear under section 2.1.2, HACCP training is required for the SQF Practitioner.
Since it appears that the Auditor is less than competent I would just go do the HACCP training now.
Frankly, I am shocked by the competence of the Auditor and the statement that she made.
I can say by my short experience dealing with 2 BC's and over 17 SQF audits there was no auditor that did not accept the PQCI certificate as a HACCP training covering the 2.1.2 clause. PCQI is HACCP named differently by the US agency, teach the HACCP principles and if you are not located in US or the auditor was from outside the country (US) then I understand he was not sure.
(I also think she didn't give you a NCR because she knows you can escalate to the BC and win that point back)

SQF might be grey, but that is what the standard calls for - it doesn't say - if you have a PCQI certificate you have HACCP training covered as well.
Never once have I not had an Auditor ask for proof of HACCP training.
I always found that if I stick to the standards as written I don't have issues down the road, now if they change this to say PCQI is fine in place of... I'll go with that.
I find that if I cover all the standards with our clients we don't have to deal with the whims of Auditors that are twisted up and cross contaminated by cross over standards from other schemes they are doing as well.

To the OP: How did you go through PCQI without HACCP though? Its not a requirement but it still is a good idea. Also as Glen said the SQF code is pretty clear, it says you should have your HACCP ready for their review :)

CFSQA isnt the same as PCQI. PCQI focuses a lot more on the regulatory side. So you know what is required from you in terms of law.
I'm currently studying to become ASQ CFSQA btw :)
ASQ is a certification to audit HACCP and quality assurance - the PCQI training is a requirement in the US - but not in Canada - if the poster in the comment considers its focus on regulatory - it does not have relevance for a CFIA regulated program.
In Canada - the licensed facilities must have a preventive controls program which usually is demonstrated in a fully functional HACCP plan. Hence my question- what's the problem if I do not have the PCQI course. I HAVE been asked by auditors to show my credentials for HACCP and have provided all my certifications for auditing (ISO; BRC ASQ).
