Dear all, in the one of our ingredients, we have naturally occurring sulfites (source onion & garlic). I wish to know if these forms can be considered as allergens? The supplier has not informed us regarding the concentration of sulfites in these products. Thanks and kind regards, Shakti.

Hi Shakti,

Technically yes, eg -

(Google)

Sulphites do not cause true allergic reactions, and [but??] are generally grouped with the priority food allergens because sulphite-sensitive individuals may react to sulphites with allergy-like symptoms.

Legally, eg with respect to labelling, it may depend, eg -

Dear Charles,

Many thanks for all these clarifications.
