Lead, Cadmium, Arsenic Maximum level in food

Hi everyone, I am looking for an official FDA, EU document that contains max amounts of allowed lead, cadmium, arsenic (and other heavy metals) in foods. What I have found so far is FDA stating Interim Reference levels of limits daily consumption from children and adults should be consumed. Though it doesn't give you a definitive answer, it provides you some insight on the limits of consumption. Your input will be appreciated. Tresa

Hi Tresa,

I suspect the specific data which you seek will be "elusive".

For USA, the (only) official limit-related material  for As, Pb. Hg I could see appears to be linked here (see bottom of page) -

https://www.fda.gov/...s-and-your-food

and, JFI/comparison, here was apparently the overall US situation in 2014 -

https://www.packagin...tal-limits-food

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

for EU see -

https://ec.europa.eu.../legislation_en

EC 1881-2006.pdf   146.4KB   16 downloads

(see for example lead-cereals)

This link may also be of interest although exact source of some of the tabulated HK limits is unclear [to me]) -

https://www.eurofins...s/heavy-metals/

PS - if you wish to see a lot of US  links, can try googling <<< US heavy metals in baby foods >>>, eg (2019) -

Hi Charles, do you have any references for Fish? or Milkfish?

Hi Charles, do you have any references for Fish? or Milkfish?

While you're waiting for Charles' response, give FDA's Fish & Fishery Products a look.

You can download it here:

https://www.fda.gov/...ds-and-controls

There are entries for milkfish on page 52.

2 Thanks

Hi Charles, do you have any references for Fish? or Milkfish?

Sadly we haven't heard from Charles for nearly a year now   :(

Not entirely sure what has happened but he certainly is missed.

In April this year he would have been a member for 20 years!

Kind regards,

Tony

Thank you so much for you inputs.

Further, I was looking also for standard Cadmium level for fish products which is composed of different ingredients like bell pepper, carrots, garlic, onion, black pepper and more. Do you have any references for this?

I have found the PNS 66:2020 (Philippine National Standard) but this only refers to whole milkfish and not milkfish with different composition.
