Human Food Manufacturing delving into Pet Food Manufacturing

We are an SQF certified, FDA regulated food production facility in the United States.  Recently a pet food company reached out to us to see if we are capable of being a co-manufacturer for them. They don't mind us not being SQF Pet Food Certified, but I'm positive I also need to change my registration type with the FDA to also include pet food, if we go through with this. We'd follow all the same GMPs and HACCP plan, but am I missing something? Are there other requirements that I just don't know about? Any guidance is greatly appreciated! Thanks

You might want to look into a pet/Animal food PCQI (FSMA) class. I incorrectly assumed my human food PCQI training/cert would work, an auditor told me it would not. Full disclosure, that was a Safe FEED safe food auditor not the FDA. She did lead me to believe an FDA auditor would also take issue with it though.

FSPCA is the FDA's go to for those classes just like for human food. Ultimately you want to make sure you can prove that you are 'qualified' to write the preventative controls FSP you will have to write for the new product line.
