Huh - how is this recall?
How is this a recall. The product is raw. It has proper cooking instructions. From the investigation details: "When asked about how the products were prepared at home, seven people reported undercooking, microwaving, or air frying the product." https://www.cdc.gov/...21/details.html

Assuming numbers of people can't read, it could be a good idea to attach a voice-record with warning that food must be cooked prior to consuming. Joking of course - but how can one prevent negligence to reading instructions? Is this a manufacturer's responsibility to take care of the stupidity? Like a microwave instruction warning not to put cats inside...
Is it a recall yet, or just in the investigation/public health alert stage?
On June 2, 2021, USDA-FSIS issued a Public Health Alertexternal icon about this outbreak.
Use an oven to cook raw chicken products thoroughly to 165°F. Never use a microwave or an air fryer to cook raw chicken products. Carefully read the labels on frozen chicken products to know if they are raw. They may still contain raw chicken even if they are breaded, browned, or stuffed. Never eat raw or undercooked chicken.
Pretty soon we're going to have to tell people to soak everything in Brawndo. Brawndo has what plants crave!

Wouldn't it be 'it's got what food scientists crave'? Lol. It's got electrolytes! Hey, it beats water. You know, like out da toilet? :rofl2:
I've dealt with this with an internal auditor, but not an actual auditor. Nothing we make is RTE, it's all kill step, and the internal asked me 'how do you verify customers are cooking per your instructions'? I said you've got to be kidding me. I don't. I actually highly doubt most of my customers even look at my instructions. I had a guy call and complain a few years ago because he heard frying fish in pancake batter was delicious, but ours didn't come out to his satisfaction. This guy literally expected me to adjust a pancake formulation so he could fry his fish in it, lmao....
Cross contamination? re-packing at the consumer?
without further information, i would do the recall as well, but depends on invovled quantities + swab test/product testt etc.

It's a recall now. Class I as of 8.9.21. Apparently people didn't take the public alert seriously/didn't read it. More got sick and hospitalized.
If I was their quality control manager, these emoticons are what I'd be feeling.
 :helpplease: :headhurts: :uhm: :angry2:

I just re-read the article. You're right. It reads like it was a voluntary Class I recall done by the company.
My fiancé eats something similar weekly. The kind I buy at our grocery store has a couple of different places that say RAW and do not microwave. Still, it doesn't surprise me that people still get sick. Stupidity runs rampant.
Ridiculous....it should be assumed anything raw has a pathogen in it and the consumer is responsible for proper cooking. Aye....
Lots of consumers don't bother reading any labels or cooking instructions. On our products you purchase from the chill sections of the store and the label clearly says "KEEP REFRIGERATED" yet many of our consumers put the product in the pantry and wonder why it has a funny smell or taste when they open it. You've really got to wonder... :silly:
A few comments -
(1) the USDA details "imply" (to me) that some products investigated had no labelling instructions (although the named example is labelled).
(2) the temperature chart linked does not mention the specific product category ("breaded") under discussion and has a technically questionable statement regarding temperature measurement (no "core" location mentioned). Perhaps the objective was to provide understanding "simplicity".
IIRC, this specific Product category is somewhat consumer-notorious for sickness /Salmonellosis. One common customer (retrospective) complaint used to be (and perhaps still is) - <<< But it looked cooked ! >>>>
IMO it would be useful if the Label stated NOT READY TO EAT / MUST BE COOKED in addition to the details shown.
Presumably the Product Specification included Absence (Nil detection) of Salmonella >>> (unavoidably ?) Adulteration. Such is micro. Life.
PS - The UK IIRC tend to implement more conservative (and multilateral) temperature requirements, eg slowest heating point >= instantaneous 75degC or shp temp. >= 2min @ >= 70degC
I for one can't wait until we invent Star Trek replicators. Then we won't have to think about all this cooking nonsense.

Then we be out of jobs….or, I guess transition to quality engineers for the replicator manufacturers.

That's fine, I planned on quitting and spending 20 hours a day on the holodeck anyway.
In Canada, they finally changed the law because people kept undercooking the breaded chicken items
The logic................they look fully cooked (from being par fried) uh ya
Now it's illegal to sell par fried raw breaded chicken
So i've stopped buying it altogether
And yes, recalls, lots and lots of recalls over this stupidity
