ISO 22000 8.5.4.3 c. - how to verify sensory observations?
Hi all friends, the clause is described as: The monitoring system, at each CCP and for each OPRP, shall consist of documented information, including:
c)applicable calibration methods or, for OPRPs, equivalent methods for verification of reliable measurements or observations (see 8.7);
As we know, the measuring equipment that monitored OPRP shall be calibrated. However, If the monitoring method is to use observation (seeing, smelling, touching...), how can I address to "equivalent methods for verification of reliable measurements or observations "? Best Regards, avn165cwf
Hi,
I'm not overly familiar with ISO22000, but in general a sensory measurement seems potentially a bit subjective/vague.
You could perhaps demonstrate that the people making the observations are suitably trained, and use known reference standards e.g. pantone colour swatches, photographic standards for the visual elements.
I'm really curious - what sort of OPRP are you monitoring in this way?
It might be the case that there is a more objective approach that could be used to accomplish the same thing.
Comparison against a standard. That's what we do. I feel you though, it is a dicey area. I've gone 20 rounds with various auditors about it, but for some products there's no other way really.
Obviously an incentive to avoid proliferating yr iso-haccp plan with CCPs / OPRPs.
An example of iso22000's lack of interpretation guidelines other than, afaik, via fssc22000
Verifcation / Validation of a Nose is certainly not a simple affair.
