Is there any Food fraud alert system in Canada / USA ? For example RASFF in Europe?
Does Canada or USA have a alert system like that in Europe (RASFF). For those who dont know, it has a real-time (almost) collection of entries for all countries in Europe in regards to Food Fraud. Its free and is very thorough, detailed. RASFF Window - Search (europa.eu)
Is there something like this in Canada ?
I know CFIA has those recall notifications but anything like RASFF ?
I know of paid ones like Decernis - Food Fraud Database but is there anything like RASFF?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Nope, nothing like RASFF for canada
However, Food in Canada, QA Magazine, Food Safety Magazine all have good websites with outbreak/recall sections that you can subscribe too
CFIA also keeps a list that is easy to read
FDA has the following
Thank you for getting back to me.
I was scratching my head trying to find something like that. Our company does have a subscription of Decernis ($1100) but it is nowhere near as detailed and efficient as RASFF
Thanks for sharing the other links.
?????? Why are you paying for that out of curiosity, do you have a track record of being shipped products that are actually subject to withdrawl or recall?
I recently joined this company and they have this yearly subscription. The current HACCP coordinator uses it but I dont see any use of it.
think of the awesome piece of tech you could have instead? unbreakable tablet for digital record keeping!
haha lol yes. I will bring changes here!!

Hi gb,
Might note that the FF in RASFF does not stand for Food Fraud.
I was under the impression that, for Food Fraud, the Decernis option is considered one of the best general Systems available albeit at a price. Their Food Fraud database was originally IIRC set up under the auspices of USP and was then free but alas no longer.
Perhaps Canada is relatively Food Fraud free. I hope so.

HI Charles, I do know that. And the reason I do not like Decernis is that some of their sources are newspaper articles - and not any links to official Govt/Food inspection bodies.
RASFF is free, all their links are 'Official', its just a lot more organized and a detailed.
I hope Canada and USA can come up with something like this in the future.

Having occasionally utilised RASFF, it can certainly be useful for revealing the degree of illogicality in some Official Microbiological Regulations.
For example, can try searching for alerts due shipments rejected for the detection of Vibrio genus in raw marine seafood (!).

Hi Charles,
It is definitely a tool with many options. Nerds like us can spend long time in it doing a ton of specific searches (most unrelated to our work!!) .

NerdSomeone who enjoys learning and obtaining new information in general for it's own sake, often without discrimination to different areas of knowledge. The key to recognizing a nerd is if they are completely indifferent to the application of what they learn; they are not inherently inclined to use or not to use the information.
Someone who is a nerd could also be a geek, who is passionate about highly specific interests, or a dork, who is a social outcast, but they do not have to be.Person 1: Do you intend to do anything with your advanced degree in Russian Literature?
Person 2: I could, but honestly it's just interesting to study it. I could go my entire life without using the information I gain and still feel fulfilled.

Joe, a computer nerd, was talking with his psychotherapist. "You've got to help me," he says. "I've fallen in love with my computer, but I know I can never marry her."
"Well, it's good you haven't totally lost touch with reality," says the therapist.
"Oh, it could never work," says Joe. "She wants a career."
