For B2B product do you have to adjust the scope of your IFS and BRC certificate?

Hello,

We are a company that mainly produces vegetable preserves for retailers. Now we are developing a B2B product with a different type of packaging (which we did not use before). Should the scope of the IFS/BRC certificate must be adjusted or be included in the next audit or is that not necessary because this is a semi-finished product and not for the retail?

Thank you very much for your help.

Regards,

Mac

Your certification scope would normally reflect all of your production activities - there are plenty of BRC certified sites that only do B2B products.
Additionally for BRC if you want to exclude items from scope (e.g. your B2B products) then you'd need to satisfy one of a limited number of criteria to be able to do so - they're only permitted where they're clearly differentiated from the products within the certified scope, and produced in a segregated area of the factory.

I'd give your cert body a call and talk it through with them. They may be able to add it to your existing scope if they feel the relevant processes were adequately covered by your last audit, otherwise you'd probably be able to add them at the next one.

Additional to pHuit's saying,

Another point of IFS/BRC certification is to prove that your company makes products with low risks of FS and quality, regardless buyers. Exclusion of some product types (B2B) posts many questions for auditors and customers when they know the information.

IMO, extending the current scope sounds easier than separating it from a new similar production line.
