Canned food opening process
Hi,
We manually open around 100 tins of canned food daily using a can opener. The canned food come in various sizes between 400g to 3kg from manufacturers.
These canned food are for meal components of ready to eat dishes.
Our site opens these canned food by removing the lids completely, resulting in the lids were submerged into the tins (food). This could be a foreign object risk if the lids are forgotten to be removed later in the process. This is a not hygienic process as the lids are submerged into the food and we don't clean the tins before opening.
It's much appreciated if any one can share their process to open canned food safely please.
cheers
We use a table mounted manual type with a magnet byilt in that grabs the lid when cans are opened and then the operator just takes those and tosses into the garbage.
Once tge can is opened everything is dumos into a container and ryn thru a metal detector to check on any possible metal shavings coming off the lid into the food
Cans tops arw blasted with a shot of compressed air to ensure no dust, debris present prior to being opened.
You could try this type of can opener, LIONAL Can Opener Manual. Check Amazon.
This can opener does not puncture through the top of the can, like most do. It actually cuts through the side of the can seam and once cut through the lid sits on top and doesn't fall into the product. This type removes risk of the lids falling into the product along with the risk of FM falling into the can is also minimised as you can lift the lid off the can. It also didn't produce much in the way of sharp edges so improves safety around the use of the current openers that puncture the can lid leaving sharp edges. You can use the can lid on the product as a "lid" to also help protect it and only fully remove it when you're about to dispense the product.
We were being very skeptical when we first saw this type, however after watching it being demoed on Technology Connections on Youtube, we bought one. I have to say we were and are very happy with its performance.
