Knives and Scissors control

Hello all,

We have implemented a knive and scissor control program where any person in our packing tables writes down how many knives/scissors they use as well as how many they return. As most of you know there is a point where people start not writing things down or the numbers do not add up!

I am thinking of investing more money to buy more knives and scissors for each leader in our packing tables, and keep them in a small box for each leader. This way each table leader will be responsible for the amount of knives/scissors on their shift.

Has anyone done anything similar or has any suggestions?

Thank you!

Hi,

In our facility, we have each knife labeled with a number and at the end of the shift, every knife must be returned to its place. If a knife is missing, the production manager must investigate where it is and why it was not returned. The post-operational inspection asks about each knife, as well as its condition (rust, residue, any bends).

Hi, we also had a similar process. We had the knives numbered and they all must be accounted for at the end of the day. Sometimes we would do random checks during the day as well. Once a knife was missing and the team had to retrace all their steps/packages until it was found (it was found luckily).

At the beginning of the shift, we check out the number and kind of knives being used during the day and check them in while they are undergoing the mid-shift sanitation. They then get checked out again and the next shift repeats the process, checking them all in again at the end of the day's production.

I've been in facilities where the cutting tool was engraved with a number and the same employee everyday used the same numbered tool

Then you knew exactly who didn't return it at end of shift  (each shift had there own set)
