Jelly like substance is found in milk bactoclarifier

Hi All,

We use a bactoclarifier mainly to remove bacterial spores in milk before using it to make cheese. We recently found jelly like substance which was wedged between plates in the milk bactoclarifier. It gets very hard when left in the air and very jelly when left in water. Do anyone know what cause this jelly like substance/material to be formed in the clarifier? May be it is caused by reaction between sanitation chemical(s) with the milk or whey ?

Presence of this jelly substance makes the equipment significantly vibrate. The efficiency of removing the spores is also reduced.

Thanks

Greetings,

This is sludge, formed by anything that drops between the plates like milk (especially if it is of bad quaity), maybe machine lubricant, dead cells from microorganisms that may have grown there, chemical residues from the cleaners, dust etc that combined together give you this result.

That is why this kind of machinery need also hand-cleaning, scrubbing away all these residues that stuck between the plates.

Also this is the reason you have the vibrations, cause it puts it off balance. Regular centrifuges suffer the same if left untended.

Regards!

Hi Evans,

Thank you !
