The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued the final guidance for the Foreign Supplier Verification Programs for Importers of Food for Humans and Animals. FSVP is a regulation under the foundational FDA Food Safety Modernization Act, that makes importers accountable for verifying foreign suppliers are producing food in a manner that meets U.S. safety standards.

The purpose of this document is to provide guidance for industry on the requirements for a foreign supplier verification program (FSVP) in 21 CFR part 1, subpart L, that importers of human or animal food must establish and follow to ensure that each food they import into the United States meets applicable U.S. requirements and is not adulterated or (for human food) misbranded with respect to allergen labeling.

Thanks Tony :)

Trying to work out which countries are deemed to have a food safety standard equivalent to FDA and therefore exempt from FVSP.

Tried to navigate myself and got so lost!

Any links or advice appreciated.

• Importers of food for which there are no hazards requiring a control (see 21 CFR 1.504(f)); • Certain importers of dietary supplements (see 21 CFR 1.511);

• Very small importers and importers from certain small suppliers are not required to follow 21 CFR 1.505 (see 21 CFR 1.512); and

• Importers of certain food from a country with a food safety system that FDA has officially recognized as comparable or determined to be equivalent to that of the United States (see 21 CFR 1.513(a)).
