Hi all,

I have a question and looking for some clear answer. Our company want to purchase breaded chicken burgers and repack and distribute at our retail store. From CFIA website it requires there must be a salmonella testing for products that is sold at retail level (here is the link: https://inspection.c.../1531254524999)

Are we required to do the test for this activity? We do not manufacture this product but we definitely do not want to be offside with this.

Thank you in advance

You do NOT, however, you will want to see lab reports for EACH LOT of product you purchase

So, given that the product you purchase MUST HAVE been tested, you should, be default, not have to

P.S. the link you attached wouldn't work----could you try again

Hi Scampi,

Thanks. Sorry for the link. Here it is https://inspection.c...3/1531254524999

Lab report from the supplier is enough.

Hi

Never just rely on the certificate of analysis (COA) there have been cases of fraudulent COA's through the years, if you are not doing you own testing, in my view, you are not completing due diligence.

UK 2018 Breaded Chicken Products estimated 5000 illness in the outbreak 2020 - 2022

A multistate outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis in the USA in 2021, involving at least 36 people, was also traced to raw, frozen, breaded, and stuffed chicken products.
Three outbreaks of Salmonella Enteritidis infection were reported to be associated with these products in Canada during 2014 and 2015
You are opening and repacking you could contaminate the product without testing you are not going to know, testing is not perfect but it demonstrates due diligence which is a defence if someone gets ill.

Remember which company would be on the outbreak/illness recall notice not your suppliers it will be yours.
