Wheat Allergen Cleaning Validation Challenges
Hi all,
We recently got a minor noncompliance in our SQF audit for not having a proper allergen-specific cleaning validation. We handle wheat, soy, and sesame. I read that swab kits like Hygiena Alertox doesn't work on soy sauce and sesame oil, which are our main source of soy and sesame allergens respectively. I also saw that Hygiena has no wheat allergen validation test kit. I don't want to risk doing it with ATP test kit because they're not allergen-specific.
I'm running out of ideas. I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me on this. Thank you!
You could swab and send it to a lab for allergen testing. Once you have enough data with negative results, drop the frequency to a minimal.
Do a risk analysis. Make a point that your sanitation indeed is effective.
Good luck!
For wheat - you could use gluten as the protein you are testing for.
Used to be in the GF biz and used these test kits internally, all GFCO approved.
hi ;)
I would recommend Neogen, but only for verification. Not sure if SQF will accept this one for validation. Alternatively use laboratory ;)

we use gluten tox pro to verify there's no wheat in our corn products (which is processed on shared equipment).
