buying and selling raw materials

Hey all,

When we sell raw materials that we purchased from our supplier to one of our customers that buys our finished goods as well, do we modify any docs? The customer is requesting COA and spec sheet for the item. Do I keep them in original form with the vendor's name? For example, bags of cocoa powder. 

Do you relabel it with your label?   Are they aware you're not the manufacturer?   If yes to those, I'd just send the original paperwork.   That's what we do with a few raw materials.   However, we do have one we relabel, and that I made a spec for.

Not yes to relabel with our label. They are aware we are not the manufacturer. They receive in the original packaging. The bags have the manufacturer's info. 

Do I change anything? 

I see no reason not to send copies of COAs from the supplier as you're not doing any testing yourself.  In fact it could be advantageous.  Imagine if a contaminant is later found?  Or the supplier is found to have falsified results?  I think it's good practice to be clear on who has done the testing.

Since I believe you are BRCGS certified, dont forget about the possibility of these products might fall into the "traded"  category.   See section 9.   

If so, you could ensure complaince with section 9,  exclude them from your audit scope, or relabel them as to not meet the traded definition.  

I agree with GMO. If you still have it in the supplier's bags, there's no reason not to just send a copy of the COA the supplier provided. Generating your own COA might give the impression that you re-tested it.
