Management Commitment Protocol

Hi,
Some companies have the luxury of having a larger human resource to pick their HACCP Team. Thats good.
But what is the protocol with regards to Management's Role and the HACCP Team Leader. Does Management Commitment means that they are ONLY expected to provide the financial support while the Leader gets the job done? Or, do they play a larger role.
In most case, Management is the "SPONSOR" while the HACCP Team Leader is the "DRIVER"......implying that sponser does not get involved. Whats are your views and thoughts? How does this affect the smaller companies?

The above conjures up visions of the Lord Hasup and his loyal chauffeur. Maybe he did purchase the beautiful Rolls Royce Silver Shadow, but if he never drives or maintains the car, he'll never learn how it handles and performs and god forbid it ever gets a puncture…In most case, Management is the "SPONSOR" while the HACCP Team Leader is the "DRIVER"......implying that sponser does not get involved. Sorry that was crap.
In my opinion the larger the organisation the less likely it will be that ‘Senior Management' take a hands on role with the HACCP programme. Even in organisations of maybe 100 - 200 I would still say it's very unlikely.
Obviously there will be notable exceptions, but most senior managers won't get their hands dirty and consequently they won't gain the level of understanding required to make the right decision when push comes to shove.

Yeah! this is one of the main reasons why most HACCP Programs fail. There seems to be management commitment and yet, it is not there to show it. Mind you, in my mind, 99% of the time, the driver is the reason for a HACCP break-down.
There is room for further discussion on this subject.

Wisest thing to do is to find another way to reach your destination. Same goes to HACCP.
