Dear Prashanna,

I would also recommend you (preferably) borrow a copy of the standard and it's guidance document which will show you how ISO have succeeded in re-inventing HACCP.

Dear Prashana,

IMO, having a basic HACCP Program in your plant can be more than adequate but that depends on how far you have gone with it. On the other hand, achieving ISO 22000 Certification does not mean that its better than your neighbour who has only a HACCP Program to show provided it is up to speed i.e. meeting the current food safety concerns and having accounted for emerging issues. (Depends on how good your FSMS Auditor is!)

IMHO, Certification is just a piece of paper but it tells a lot about your Food Safety System. Implementation is KING. If you can show and prove adequacy in your verification activity coverage and subsequent system validation points to achievement of intended or set food safety objectives, you are basically there.

If with HACCP in place, you just need to meet the requirements of the ISO 22K Standard....follow Charles's advice

If you have only ISO 9K and HACCP in place, follow the earlier advice.

If you have ISO 9K in place, IMO, forget about ISO 15161 but just go straight to ISO 22K because ISO 9K has nothing to do with FSMS. However, you should consider integration which is really a simple process. Hope this helps.
