Only five years old but an institution… The food safety responsibles meet again at the “KALS (Karlsruher Lebensmittelsymposium)” The topic at the “expert day” this year will be “Nanotechnology (Nano4Food)”. Do we have to pay attention to potential risks of nanoparticles, if we eat them? It will be gathered, what is possible (e.g. flavour encapsulation; nutrient addition), we discuss risks (e.g. allergy potentials) and consumer opinion (consumer inquiry by BfR). A Round-table discussion at the end of this day tries to summarize and to frame an opinion.
At the secondary day of the symposion german retailers give evidence to their requirements in case of product safety. The general manager of the International Food Standard answers questions according to the version 5 of the certification standard and first-class experts summarize the legal news in food safety.
The exhibitions “Practical solutions for food safety” and “BIO to retail”, a vespertine Get-together and lots of possibilities to conversate make a go of the annual event. The symposion will be held in german but could be translated, if desired! Regsitration at info@FPQS.de

Thanks Witch, it would be good if you could translate and post it.

Happy New Year.

Simon
Dear Witch,

I am particularly interested to learn more from your meetings with regards to the potential "risks" that could occur with regards to "Nanotechnology for Food Processes"

How really safe are foods that are processed out of nanotechnology? Its already happening. Putting the potential risks aside, the enhancement to creating "new foods" is so incredible. Imagine, who needs to put a tea spoon of instant coffee powder into a hot cup of water when all you need to do is drop in a pill of about 2 cm in size and you have a cuppa!

Tell us more.....Witch!

Happy New Year,
Charles Chew
Dear Witch,

Totally off-topic but I couldn't resist -

and first-class experts

Interested to know the difference betweeen a "first-class" and "second-class" expert ? Nationality ?

vespertine Get-together

Apparently , vespertine means -

1. Of, relating to, or occurring in the evening.
2. Botany Opening or blooming in the evening.
3. Zoology Becoming active in the evening, as bats and owls; crepuscular. (vampirish ???)

You seem to have acquired an extremely poetic dictionary.

Happy New Year

Best Regards / Charles.C
@Simon: you are right... I am busy... sorry for that!
@Charles Chew: We will report the result of the discussion after the Symposium!
@ Charles C: Thought everyone knew that I am no "first-class" expert in english ... sorry !!!
Andrea
