Hello food safety members,

Can anyone tell me what's new with food safety culture plan in FSSC22000 V6 ? We were certified against FSSC22000 V5.1, we had a plan with targets and ways to achieve them with evaluation of food safety surveys. Is that only monitoring and evaluation which were added to the new version (V6) ? or we need to create another objective for this?

I see something about objectives : " A requirement for objective(s) to be supported by a documented food safety and quality culture plan"

Is it something other than food safety objectives?

Should we post it on wall like food safety policy that we had before? or can we mix them together?

Thank you all in advance

Hi shookimogh,

Food Safety Culture was not part of the FSSC V5.1 scheme, so your audit should not have included looking at a food safety culture. The following requirements were added in Version 6 (I have highlighted in red the main points:

2.5.8 FOOD SAFETY AND QUALITY CULTURE (ALL FOOD CHAIN CATEGORIES)

a) In accordance with and in addition to clause 5.1 of ISO 22000:2018, as part of the organizations’ commitment to cultivating a positive food safety and quality culture, senior management shall establish, implement and maintain a food safety and quality culture objective(s) as part of the management system. The following elements shall be addressed as a minimum:

• Communication,

• Training,

• Employee feedback and engagement, and

• Performance measurement of defined activities covering all sections of the organization impacting on food safety and quality.

b) The objective(s) shall be supported by a documented food safety and quality culture plan, with targets and timelines and included in the management review and continuous improvement processes of the management system

Kind regards,

Tony

Hi Tony,

That's funny. cause the auditor asked us and we created one. should it be monitored monthly or on a frequent basis? or is it just enough to evaluate.

for v5.1 we had this employee surveys and we evaluated them. What i'm asking is that , is it something like monitoring the food safety objectives?

Hi,

Though food safety culture was not documented in version 5.1, during the recent audits there was an expectation of very specific requirements in place (as defined by the GFSI). Version 6 seems to be documenting these requirements.

thanks for the comment. Does this also contain a monthly monitoring system like quality objectives ? or are surveys enough for just measurement?

Hi,

For us it is a combination of many things including: analysis and reporting of the results of the Pre-requisite verification program (monthly schedule for us), an annual survey with analysis and reporting of results that feed into the improvement program, inclusion of a food safety culture in the food safety objectives (e.g. improve rating or increase participation)

I'm sure there are many others who have far more experience who can comment on this and we haven't had our recertification audit yet to the new standard.

Well mentioned! We have to include it in our quality objectives. Thanks for reminding. our Surveillance audit is on February 2025. and we have started creating new documents for V6.

Thanks for your time!
