Is ISO 22000 GFSI Approved?
ISO 22000 on its own is not recognised by GFSI as a benchmarked certification programme. While it provides a solid foundation for food safety management systems, it does not meet all of the benchmarking requirements set out by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI).
However, ISO 22000 forms a core part of the FSSC 22000 Certification Scheme, which combines ISO 22000 with additional requirements (such as sector-specific prerequisite programmes and FSSC scheme elements). The FSSC 22000 scheme is fully benchmarked and recognised by GFSI.
In summary, ISO 22000 alone is not GFSI-recognised, but it is embedded within the GFSI-approved FSSC 22000 certification scheme.
