The Safe Quality Food (SQF) Program is managed by the SQF Institute (SQFI), which is administered by the Food Marketing Institute (FMI). The SQF Code is a GFSI-benchmarked food safety standard that helps businesses demonstrate robust food safety and quality systems.
SQF certification refers to certification against one of the SQF Codes published by SQFI. The current version is
Edition 9, which was released in 2020 and is fully benchmarked by GFSI.
The SQF Codes provide a comprehensive framework for managing food safety and are applicable across various sectors of the supply chain. These include:
- SQF Food Safety Code for Primary Production
- SQF Food Safety Code for Food Retail
- SQF Food Safety Code for Manufacturing
- SQF Food Safety Code for the Manufacture of Food Packaging
- SQF Food Safety Code for Storage and Distribution
There is also an
SQF Quality Code for organisations that wish to incorporate product quality certification alongside food safety.
