How would you rate the speed of the IFSQN website?

I wanted to gather some feedback from members on the speed of the site. I understand it also depends on your connection type and the speed at your end, so it would be good if you could comment on your equipment as well as voting in the poll e.g. average on 512mbs broadband.

Thanks for your assistance.

Regards,
Simon

I'm sorry to say Simon but it's painfully slow. I connect at work (don't know speed but other sites are fine) and at home (broadband 100 Mbps).
Dear Simon,

I agree with GMO. Using broadband, definitely slower than most other sites on average although not sure what is a fair comparison. I simply assumed it was a low cost hoster (if that is the correct name ?)

Thanks for the feedback guys; it’s very useful for me. I have been experiencing a slow down with the site recently hence my question. The hosting is the same as we’ve had for three years, so nothings changed there. The hosting company have always been very good and reliable. However, the site is on a shared server and not on a dedicated server, which could make a difference as the site gets physically bigger (disk space) and we get more popular (data transfer). And we have got a lot more popular recently.

The other variables to throw in the pot are the users line e.g. modem or broadband and perhaps where people are located and also the time of day people log on. Things slow down when the US starts to wake up. When you begin to consider the number of variables it quickly becomes a minefield.

I have found a website to check the speed of the site and to look for tips to improve the speed, and I will see what I can do with the results.

To the members who voted ‘nice and quick’, where are you and how do you connect to the Internet? It would be useful to get more votes and feedback form members if you can take the time.

Eventually I think we will need to go for a dedicated server, but in the meantime I need to take what action I can to improve performance.

On a different note I ran a program to check for dead links on the site over the weekend and will be reviewing the results this week. This is an ongoing problem for all web sites that link to external sites and especially on large resources such as this. I have not checked for dead links previously, but following this initial purge it will need to become part of regular site maintenance.

Simon
Dear Simon,

I voted nice and quick, using DSL and only in Wigan.

Thanks for the feedback Steve. It's impressive getting to Wigan so quick as the site is hosted on a server in California, believe it or not.

Simon
Further comments / votes would be helpful and appreciated.

Thanks,
Simon
