Dear Hygiene,

If you have controlled system in all areas of production, then there is no need of worry - only you have to provide training to the people accessing the area.

However in pharmaceutical industry to enter the IV Saline manufacturing unit - there is a special change room and strict uniform practices followed. The machinery of IV saline manufacturing is itself kept in different room called sterile area with a special entry system such as double door - - and a thick plastic material is used as a uniform. Only operator, microbiology lab personnel (for collecting sample) and designated maintenance worker is allowed in that area. The sterile area uniform is not allowed to taken out of the area - people have to leave the uniform in the locker and come.
I have never seen this kind of special practises like second change room in a food faciltiy.

Dear Anish :

If it is catering company then I have to be worry , because ready to eat foods, pershable foods , if there is somthing in the uniform then will be end up of the product, hair and insects mostly can be found on the washed uniforms so if there no strickt visual inspection the problem will be occured .
So what is the best idea or solution to be sure the staff enter the production area with uniform free of physical hazards?

Thanks & Regards

Dear hygienic

1. Provide change over room
2. Provide lockers to each employee
3. Ensure each employee has 3 uniform minimum ( based on job assignments)
4. Provide Laundry facilities
5. Ensure that, the uniforms are taken out of you catering unit only for cleaning
6. Ensure the cleanliness of lockers and locker rooms
7. Ensure the hygiene practices of employees in their accomodations ( if its own by org)
8. ensure one time use of uniform
9. Ensure the used uniform is washed
10.Provide disposable uniforms as much as possible
11. ensure air curtains at the entrance
12. If required provide positive pressure in the required sections like finsihed good packing
13. Conduct swab analysis
14. Conduct air count analysis
15. Maintain a check list of uniform inspections
16. Replace uniform every 6 month max (depends on job assignments)
........................

This is not a major concern, if supervision is proper

Just meant to identify the microbial load in the air

1. inside food handling room especially pdn and packing
2. air from the air curtains

Air can be contaminated in many ways....

Rollers are a good option. Check for any loose hairs on the uniform of every person entering processing area using rollers.
