Mock Emergency Drill

In our Emergency prepardness procedure , we have to evaluate the Emergency system , how is the activiation , I mean we have to make Periodical Testing or Mock Emergency Drills , do you know how to make it ? how often should be verified?

Dear Hygienic,
Mock drills are conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of safety system and ensure the preparedness of people to act in an emergency. Mock drills can be conducted by planning an scenerio and activating alarm. Appoint observers to identify the actions of people, fire wardens, first aiders etc. and record the observations. Identify and analyse what went right and what went wrong.
Communicate the findings- the areas of strength and week nesses etc. Initiate corrective actions like more trainings or the like to be initiated.

The whole process must be documented. The drills may be conducted monthly or less frequently depending on the criticality of the activities being carried out. Scenerios can be varied ( Fire, Medical, Violence, Natural Calamity etc. etc.)

I know this is simple. But I hope experts may join with better inputs.

Our fire alarm went off last month. Everyone made an orderly exit to the proper points and I ticked off their names from the list. We were very pleased with ourselves. Then I was congratulated by my MD, who is responsible for contacting the emergency services, for running such an excellent and orderly mock emergency drill. Then I told him that I hadn't run a mock emergency drill. Then we proceeded to re-enter the building in a rather disorderly manner to see if it was actually burning down or not. It wasn't - it was a false alarm. Cautionary tale though, eh?
