How do you approach the wearing of burqas in a food plant?

I am wondering about how to approach the wearing of a burqa in a food plant. We wear hairnets and bump caps and are required to remove these prior to visiting the restrooms, lunch rooms etc. If an associates wears a burqa for culteral or religious reasons, then would they need to wear a hair net over the scarf and would the trail of the scarf need to be tucked inside the work shirt?

Hi
This is one of those times where practical thinking of how you would treat anyone else goes out the window in fear of discrimination.
You must remember that you are operating a food plant and that safety is the first priority.
Assess the possibility of contamination and act accordingly.
Speak to a few food safety equipment suppliers (who supply your hair nets etc.) and see if they have something available for this instance.
Alternatively seek some advice from your certification body on how you overcome this issue, they may have seen it on other sites and have some suggestions.
Hope this helps

Do you mean a burqa (as in a full body covering or just a headscarf? I've had a member of staff who wore a headscarf before. She just wore a mob cap on top. It's important to remember that unless you go down the route of laundering the scarves, they are still an item of outside clothing. Some of the scarf did cover her neck and wasn't covered by the mob cap but it was a compromise and it seemed to satisfy auditors.
Now this is an interesting thing. What about a mobcap or scarf specifically for this purpose? There's a business in that certainly.
