How often we should review the quality related documents as per ISO 22000:2005? is there any clauses which declares the frequency of document review even though if there no changes on documents?

yeah i think it must be review once at least once in an year

Dear Dambar,

See iso22000, para 4.2.2

This activity is logically a part of "System Verification" (eg 8.4.3, 8.5.2) in which case see iso22004, paras 4.2, 8.4, the latter of which includes this statement -

"At a minimum, verification of the entire system in this manner should take place on an annual basis."

(The "manner" is detailed in 22004)

Dear Charles and Asim,

Thank you for your opinion and feedback,

I couldn't find the terms as Charles mentioned in ISO 22004 Manual, may be because I couldn't find full version of ISO 22000 manual?

Could you kindly suggest me the website where I can find full version of said manual?

Warm regards,

Iso charges a lot of money to view their standard, so we can't post our copies of it for you.  Copyright, intellectual property, etc.

But Ethiopian standards are freely available and remarkably similar...

Dear Magenta,

Thank you for the info and relevant pdf file, unfortunately there is no clause 4.2.2

Hi Dambar,

We raised the same question before to our consultant, the advice given that it is a best practice to review the quality related documents in annual basis. :rofl2:

Dear Amanda,

Thank you for sharing your opinion,

I am still looking for the ISO 22000:2005 FSMS Training Manual to be fully confident.  :secret:

How often we should review the quality related documents as per ISO 22000:2005? is there any clauses which declares the frequency of document review even though if there no changes on documents?

Hi Dambar,

The frequency should be defined in your procedure.

ISO 22000 Clause 4.2.2 Control of documents gives the requirements for documentation and it stipulates that a review is required without specifying a timescale.
A documented procedure shall be established to define the controls needed
b) to review and update documents as necessary, and re-approve documents,

ISO 22000 Clause 8.4.2 Evaluation of individual verification results requires review in the event of none conformity:
The food safety team shall systematically evaluate the individual results of planned verification (see 7.8).
If verification does not demonstrate conformity with the planned arrangements, the organization shall take action to achieve the required conformity. Such action shall include, but is not limited to, review of....procedures, PRP's .etc

I don't believe that ISO 22000 Clause 8.4.3 Analysis of results of verification activities covers this specifically:
The food safety team shall analyse the results of verification activities, including the results of the internal audits (see 8.4.1) and external audits.

My view is the requirement for review when no changes are required is ambiguous and the requirement is for it to be defined in your procedure. Having said that I would review annually.

Tony

Hello Tony,

Thank you very much for your logical opinion,

And I agree with you, it should be mentioned in company's document control procedure.

!  You're right !   That page is missing!  I'll have to hunt around for it... :ninja:

I must thank you for your "Ninja Effort"

Unfortunately, iso22000 is based on the Principle of  ambiguity.

I guess “reviewing” may depend on which Quality Documents you are actually referring to, eg -

iso22004 –

Where ISO 22000 refers to a documented procedure or statement, this should be interpreted to mean that the

procedure  or  statement  is  established,  documented,  implemented,  reviewed  and  maintained  by  the

organization as part of the food safety management system.

And, also iso22004 –

The periodic verification activities involve the overall assessment of the system (see 8.4.3 of ISO 22000:2005)

>> annual

Tenuous admittedly but perhaps better than nothing. The auditor is probably unfamiliar with iso22004 anyway.

No doubt Ethiopia has a complete answer. I hope ninjas get a discount.
