HACCP for Bulk Tree Nuts

Does anyone in the Storage & Distribution Industry have a HACCP Plan, specifically a Hazard Analysis for storing Tree Nuts.  We do not store Peanuts.  We store bulk (in the bag) almonds, pecans, walnuts.  Our 3rd party auditor asked for the H.A. for nuts.  We have identified them as allergens and detailed their handling, storage, and clean up in our Allergen Management Procedure (2.8.2).  However, the auditor insisted on seeing the H.A.  Did I miss a step?  If anyone had done this exercise, I would appreciate the advice.

Hi suzieq,

i assume this is SQF level2 or 3, S&D, FSC 25 and 26

It is possible you have missed section 2.4.3 ?

I am in teh storage and distribution industry and we are SQF L2 certified and our auditor did not insist on an HA for tree nuts.  We had to include allergens as a potential contamination in our hazard analysis but did not have to conduct a separate one strictly for peanuts.  Hope that helps!

1 Thank

Thank you for your reply.  That is precisely what we have done.  Because tree nuts (nuts in general) are already identified as allergens, we have a separate allergen management program.  That wasn't good enough for him, and unfortunately resulted in points off.  I have heard from many sources that this was an unusual request. He also deducted points because I didn't have an SOP for changing a light bulb.  Never mind that we had an entire glass management program!

It is nice to meet someone who is in the same industry who understands the challenges to applying the elements of SQF in a warehouse/distribution environment.  If you don't mind, I would love to pick your brain on some things since you are already SQF Level 2 certified, which is what we would like to achieve.  I'm curious about the Master Sanitation Schedule that you are following.  Would you mind sharing your insights?
