Warning statement of Sulphur Dioxide/ Sulphite

Hi all,

I have a curious regarding Sulphur Dioxide/ Sulphite even both are not major allergen according to Food Allergen Labeling Act of 2004  but if I want to control it (not more than 10 ppm) which term I should control according to US regulation Sulphur Dioxide or Sulphite?

For EU regulation it is clarifying to control in term of SO2 but I can not find for USA so need your all advise //\\

I'm not in USA so this response is ex google.

The answer to yr query seems slightly complicated.

The official (10ppm) reg. is i think here -

Note that the relevant amount should be determined by experiment .

As per 2nd link, the final amount is calculated as ppm SO₂ (despite the titled terminology "sulphite")

Other refs may use the terminology "Total SO₂" which seems more logical (to me),  eg -
