Mobile dataloggers for temperature assessment

Hi all,

I'm not sure what section this should be in but someone will pout it in the right place!!

I have a question regarding the use of mobile data-loggers to assess temperature control while a product is in transit.

If you use them , how often do you send the units, is it every load, or monthly?

How do you get them returned from the delivery site, if they are in a carton?

Any thoughts?

Regards

Trubert

We only use dataloggers for logging a batch for validation.  In vehicles we have temperature monitors which then download to a base unit once it's within range on return to site and this is done automatically.  I wouldn't bother logging product routinely, I'd only do this to validate the process and then control and monitor the temperature of the vehicle but ensure that's done on every load.  If they're not your vehicles, I'd simply ensure the temperature is ok at loading and despatch and that the haulier keep downloads instead which you can interrogate if you need to.

Hi Trubert,

As GMO said, as long you validate the process and routenely check the temperature of the vehicle every load/unload you should be ok. The vehicles should have their own monitor system so you can download and check the info if a problem occurs for example. In my previous job we used a 3rd party transport company who even gave us a print out of the average temperature of the vehicle each time and if we wanted it, we could get the complete information along with a nice graph showing us exactly what temperature was for the whole journey.

Do you have your own transport or do you use a 3rd party? If you have your own atleast you may be able to have a suitable system in place on the vehicles or if 3rd party take it into consideration when chosing who you use.
