Hey everyone, what are your thoughts on temperature loggers for food safety, specifically for food transportation? Are they worth investing in?

Hi Italian,

It probably depends on yr specific needs and how much you are prepared to invest ?

Can you add a little contextual detail ? eg product xyz, frozen, Chilled, regulatory related ??

Hi Italian,

We use them at our facility to monitor storage temperature and they provide excellent evidence should this ever be questioned by customers or auditors/inspectors. We get ours for approx £250 a pop but you can be looking at much more for a top spec one. I'd recommend them for sure (unless you have bad vehicles that can't hold temperature, as they will dob you in!!)

Hello,

We mostly employ external transport companies for our needs and demand that they live up to the chapter in the BRC standard 7 about transportation.

However, we still have some customers that also request a temperature log with their containers.

We've found an easy to use USB stick with a thermometer. As I don't have it in my office I can't say exact brand, manufacturer etc. But if you want more information I can look it up.

Just let me know.

It would be used for frozen or temperature sensitive goods such as meats, frozen veggies, dairy, etc

Thank you for the input, do you know what brand you are currently using so I can look in to them since you had success with the ones you are currently using?

Hi Italien,

We do use USB disposable temperature data loggers which can easily be connected to a computer and read all the temperatures up to 99 days.

Here is an link to a site where they sell these USB disposable temperature loggers (Apresys, model D99):

We currently use Dickson C181 recorders in our coldstores which give physical readouts on a disc that is changed weekly. Depending on your needs you'll want to look at different models but that's the brand we use
