Do you need to state reference sources in procedures?
When writing Policies and procedures do you have to quote where you found the information?
Let me explain....
If I use Lux lighting levels or suggested micro limits from CFIA, should I be stating in the policy where I found these numbers? or would it be better to have a bibliography completely separate from all policies?
Hi itreatpets ,
I'd prefer to add all the references under the reference clause in the procedure , at this clause you can state all the reference documents with their date of issues ,this will help during updates to check that this is the last update , and also during audits if there is a challenge with the auditor your reference is stated no need to waste time for researching , also will be type of knowledge transfer to the team as they may read these references and increase their awareness .

Hi,
In addition to Ehab, you can put other procedure / document titles to the reference section. Example, a work instruction could be a detail description of a procedure, or a procedure is linked to the one of other departments. This could strengthen your document control.
I am thinking about adding it to my Quality manual. Under each section, after all, other info it will have a Reference heading. I like that the details will be all together in one location.
I will be checking with my consultant to ensure this is ok!
They're nice to have in the SOP rather than remembering. Typically I'll include such references in my hazard analysis f or both "validation" and the analysis stage, but my docs make that easy.
