Detecting hard materials and insects in cereals, nuts and grains?
Hi all,
Is there any suggestion to prevent the shells or insects in cereals, nuts and grains? These are some of the raw materials we used. Only manual sorting on a line is applied for now.
Thanks,
Selin
Hi Sungirl_,
You may use the sifter that is the smaller mesh size of your cereals, nuts and grain. So that you may flush out shell and grain insects like weevils, beetles from your raw materials.
Sincerely,
May
Dear Sungirl
Would it be possible to use a sieve where holes are smaller that the product but bigger than the foreign material? The sieve could be inthe form of a rotater cylinder or a vibrating conveyor belt.

Hi Selin,
I have many years ago seen a device which IIRC diferentially blew any rubbish around the product into the air such that it could be screened out.

Please consider about color sorter machine. I think it have effective with your case.
Regards.
Hi,
it very depends on the material we are talking about. Insects and lighter materials can be separated from nuts by air sifting. Laser/solor sorting and/or acouctic sorting are usually applied by our supplier. Double sieving is also applied. X-ray is not helpful due to very similar density.

LED light sorter, what a terrific machine that I saw in action at a right off the boat shrimp processing facility.
