Minimum limit for magnet trap strength

Hi every one.

Need to get advice from everyone on the minimum Gauss strength limit of the Magnet trap

We are bakery manufacturer.  We have magnet trap which attached at our material Handling System from Buhler. We did check with them on the minimum Gauss strength limit, but they unable give us the answer. The magnet strength is around 4000 gauss during installation, and it have drop to 2300 Gauss after many years.  We have metal detector at packing line. We do not found any abnormal detection at me detector even the Gauss strength have reduce to 2300.

Is there any method/ validation to determine the limit of the Gauss strength for magnet trap?

some more infos necessary.

Type, form, built-in, same procedure for measurements over time etc. What means "many years"?

A drop of about 50 % e.g.for neodym-type magnets are unusual without stress (tempertureor mechanical stress).

Mostly, final magnets in food industry situations are Rare Earth type. In the Current international 0909 MAGSEP 2010 standard for magnets, it states that "Due to the degradation of magnets over time, new magnets should be supplied with a strength of at least 10,000 gauss at the food contact surface." and it also states "in operation, magnet strength shall be a minimum of 8500 gauss at the food contact surface as measured by an approved within the preceding 12 months" 

in this day and age, the biggest risk is the small weakly magnetic fragments, too small for most metal detectors to detect. Thats why high surface strength, high coverage magnets are so essential to compliment metal detectors.
