Shipment/Receiving Food Fraud Program
Hello guys, would you provide any idea how do you protect your products from food fraud when you are shipping on "LTL" less than a truckload?
Thank you!
Hi,
In my opinion, whether it is full or not, the checking should be the same for food fraud. E.g check the seals if intact and traceable with the DR, check the door condition and hinges (as in some events the seals is intact but what is done is that the door hinge have signs of being tampered) and if there is some part of the truck that I suspect to be newly repaired or welded that it might ask from the shipping site (where the material is from) if before shipping this part of the truck is checked and with the same remark as ours.
LTL is really difficult. This has come up alot on this forum and your hands are tied
You can ask the company to provide you with a copy of the drivers log, but I don't think they will
You can ask your customer to provide you with confirmation that the product arrived as expected...
Use a reputable company, and ask them to provide you with written confirmation that the product is not left unatteneded etc and include that letter in both your food fraud documentation and approved supplier docs
Really thank you Scampi, you are always outstanding with your help. 20/20
Out of context: are the food fraud plan, allergen awareness, shipping/receiving program, and food defense plan PRP's for HACCP? Thank you!
Food fraud/defense are not a part of HACCP. They've come about from the USA after the 9-11 attacks......it started the bio terrorism regulations
A good HACCP plan should include the following PRP's
- Premises
- Transportation, Purchasing/Receiving/Shipping and Storage
- Equipment
- Personnel
- Sanitation and Pest Control
- Recall
- Operational Prerequisite Programs
Here is a link to the CFIA Food Safety Enhancement Manual that may help and it's what all Canadian Meat, Dairy and Egg producers MUST follow; i may be biased, but I happen to think it's one of the most comprehensive plans to address a good HACCP plan. If you follow the link, you will see that the above PRPs are broken down further into each sub bullet
Thank you Scampi, we already did our first pre-assessment and we had 33 minor NCR and 5 major NCR, 0 critical ncr. final schedule audit in December. I'm working hard with final details.
Thank you for all your help, have a nice weekend!
Hi Scampi,
Perhaps it shoud be emphasised that this is a "Canadian" HACCP.
IMO some of the best explained model haccp plans in the Literature.
But I have never understood why -
(a) they chose to split their Prerequisite Programs and introduce (albeit with a more semantically accceptable redesign) the infamous ISO terminology of "Operational Prerquisite Program" .
(b) they chose to call Prerequisite Programs "PPs".
(c) they borrowed the ambiguously confusing term "identified" from Codex haccp.
(d) they discontinued their excellent L/S risk matrix.
(e) their PPs are textually so darned long.
Some haccp systems/manuals include Traceability in the list.
@jean
That is a lot of minors/majors.
Sounds like yr haccp system is more in the "draft" stage.
