Sedex employment agencies checks
Hello all,
We have had our first Sedex Smeta 2 pillar audit and everything went well but we have 1 NC that I have no idea to solve:
Currently there is no procedure in place to check employment agencies on ethical practices and labour conditions.
What can/needs to be check with the employment agencies? the auditor gave as an example that we need to check what our agency workers get paid in relation to what we pay the agency...
Can someone point me the right direction?
We are a Dutch company and we have 2 employees who work through an agency. so these are not foreign workers and are on the same level as each other employee.
You should audit the labour service provider, checking their records for each agency worker (or a sample if you have a lot of workers) to confirm that there are processes at the agency to check the individuals right to work & also how the individuals are paid (deductions etc). plus that the agency staff are aware of Modern slavery act & have received training on this.
Audits need to be completed (by trained auditors) regularly dependant on risk & you should also agree who is responsible for ensuring that the staff have basic food hygiene training (sometimes a grey area in food agency staff - ie. who is responsible for paying for the training & conducting it?).
