Steps / process to become a food auditor

I am actually wondering what is the actual stages / process or experience needed to become an auditor. I have a basic / experience in HACCP (which I’m currently working in a certified HACCP company) and thinking of attending a training on FSSC22000 internal auditor as a start and a professional skill improvement to become an auditor.

Am I in the right path?

Thanks in advance!

Anne

Oh, It’s my first time posting so I don’t know how it goes. Thanks for the comment.

If this is something you are serious about, you first need real world exposure. See if you can tag along with an expericienced auditor for a week of running 3rd party audits.

There's a lot more to auditing than taking an internal auditor course.

Understanding the stress of the position sith traveling and dealing with all sorts of people can make or break a lot of would be auditors.

I was an international auditor, loved and hated it many times - but it created a great consultant.

First - shadow an auditor
Second - gain experience as a junior auditor
Take all the courses you can and make sure to toss in a couplw on psychology and handling stressful situation.
Third - try to get a full time saleried position as an auditor instead on contract.

Anne,

Having been the auditee for many, many years, I'm considering the same. I have been pre-approved by an auditing company. This is the go ahead to complete the designated courses, shadow 5 different audits, and be shadowed in an audit that I conduct. Then, I'm hired. My last class is ISO2200.

If you want to reach out to me privately, please do. I'd love to compare notes.

Hi Cindy,

Thanks for sharing your journey with me. Hearing from your journey, I surely do lack a lot. But somehow this path is what I choose and what I am happy at, my goal is to become an auditor in the next 5-10 years and hopefully I can become one.

It’ll be nice if we can talk this deeply through a private chat.
