Prop 65 for PET packaging
My company makes food packaging containers with PET and PVC. I was just wondering, as none of my searches have been helpful, if PET is included on the Prop 65 list. I know some of the chemicals used to make the PET resin are, but what about finished product? Any info or insight would be appreciated!!
I do not know the particular of Prop 65, only the broad strokes.
That said, Polyethylene terephtalate and Polyvinyl chloride should not appear in Prop 65 unless the polymers are extremely short (low millions on monomers) and even then maybe not.
A short polymer is soft and weak, often look like a wax or grease. Not to confuse with micro-plastics.
The plastifiers used in the process could appear on Prop 65 because there is always a risk of them leaching out of the polymer
The company I work also makes food packaging materials that contain PET. I request compliant letters from all my suppliers and then use that information to create letters to my customers. Based on the information that the suppliers provide check it against the prop 65 list. Also check the percentages because most often they are below the limit.

Thank you for that! The statement is very helpful, however, I am wondering about PET. Would it basically be the same, just with the different chemicals used?
