Hello,

What is the best method used to test the presence (qualitative and/or quantitative) of soap residue on equipment? We use an soap with a pH between 13 and 13.5.

If you're rinsing after using the soap, can't you just test the pH of the rinse water?

Agreed with pHruit. I would test the source water first as a baseline, and then test all rinse water until pH matches the initial source water baseline.

We use concentrated soap that is diluted before being used for sanitation. We test daily to ensure the chemicals are being properly diluted. For our dishwashers we have a chlorine strip test we perform on the water daily as well. We also test our water for e.coli and coliforms once per year. We have never tested equipment for soap residue and have been SQF certified years.

Hi Juribe,

The OP might need to expand more, but it sounds as though they aren't diluting their soap before sanitation. Therefore, they would have a need to check the rinse water to ensure soap removal.

You have a dilution ratio, and you test yours to confirm the dilution ratio. I would assume the ratio that was provided is specific to your application and process, so you wouldn't need to check rinse water later (as long as you confirm you have the proper concentration before sanitation).

Hi

There are many kits are available in the market to check the residue. yes internally you can do one thing,

Example: Make solution of 5%.Use the 50 ml of sample or as required for desired surface area cleaning .Rinse the same surface by potable water and collect the same quantity of rinsed water sample after completion of cleaning . Check as given below .

Apply formula =

SOAP RESIDUE = ( A-B)

A-----------------      SOAP PERCENTAGE IN SOLUTION BEFORE APPLIED

B-------------------  SOAP PERCENTGE IN COLLETED RINSED SOLUTION AFTER CLEANING .
