Does anyone know of an organic spray on leave on foaming sanitizer?
Good Afternoon, I am the Quality Control Manager for beef slaughter processing facility in Washington state. We are having sanitation issues and some high counts for E.coli 0157H7, generic e.coli and coliform. The sanitation crew is not using a spray on leave on sanitizer as I believe they should immediately after pre-op. They are claiming that there is no foaming spray on leave on sanitizers that are organic compliant. Does anyone know of an organic spray on leave on foaming sanitizer out on the market? Some organic ceritfiers will allow PAA to be used as it breaks down into water, and acetic acid
You can also purchase high strength (varying) acetic acid that has the ability to provide pathogen reduction BUT is incredible hard to work with (due to the odour)
They MUST sanitize or you're going to be in a recall situation, not if , but when

You simply cannot run a slaughter house and not sanitize after cleaning If there ever was a time to put your foot down, this is it!
As Scampi has mentioned, PAA is your best bet and is approved by NOP. I doubt you will find a foaming application however. Attached is the USDA final rule;

I would like to clarify. They aren't using a spray on leave on sanitizer, or they aren't using any sanitizer at all?
Check with your chemical supplier. They should be able to find you a solution. Typically, PAA sanitizers are organic approved provided they have no other additives or mixes of other chemicals, such as octonoic acid.
There are "foaming additives" you can put into the sanitizer to allow it to foam. I'm unsure about organic compliance of the foam additives. But...I've used a portable foamer with just PAA at no rinse concentration and it sprayed out just fine. It didn't foam up, but you don't really need the sanitizer to foam up, you just need it to spray.
PAA with a foaming additive is the way to go if foaming is necessary. We use PAA as a spray without the foaming additive and are organic compliant with no issues in certification since we've adopted this solution.Is there a reason they're insistant upon a foaming sanitizer?
